Our goal: Changing how the industry handle salmon diseases
Salmax Research was established with the goal of revolutionizing how we think and act in fish health management. Like you, we care about ensuring that every individual salmon has the best possible life. This means working as preventively and proactively as possible, without harming the fish. By regularly performing non-invasive and non-lethal sampling, and by collecting and analyzing these data, we can move fish health management from reactive and invasive approaches to proactive, gentle, and effective practices.
Our laboratory
In Kolvereid you will find our state-of-the-art laboratory. Here, a skilled team of veterinarians and laboratory technicians works with sample analysis and sequencing.
The laboratory is equipped for culture-based and genomic detection of pathogens, as well as viral gene sequencing.
Examples of sample types we frequently work with:
- qPCR surface samples (swabs)
- qPCR tissue
- qPCR blood
- ELISA
- Sequencing
- Bacteriology
- Drinking water analyses
- UV efficiency testing
Non-invasive and non-lethal sampling
The data that form the foundation of the insights provided by Salmo Surveillance are based on the analysis of swab samples.
Advantages of swab samples:
- non-invasive
- non-lethal
- simple – site personnel can collect samples
- detects asymptomatic carriers
- enables more frequent sampling
In the long term, our goal is to base our analyses on water samples, further reducing the burden experienced by the fish as much as possible.
